The Bus is also used as part of a community ministry in Darley Dale. This project was initiated (after about a year of prayer about new mission initiatives) by a small mission team comprising people from the mid-Derbyshire Methodist Circuit. We are keen to involve Christians from any of the churches in the Matlock area and our team is not therefore exclusively Methodist.
The Bus visits Darley Dale every Thursday from 12 noon to 2am. It parks in Lime Grove, Darley Dale – across the A6 from Broad Walk.
We aim to offer a mobile church presence providing an informal, relaxed, social environment where people can drop in for as long as they like to meet friendly people, relax and chat. We offer a relaxed environment, with hot and cold drinks, cakes or biscuits and activities for young children. We also have some free Bibles and information about the Christian faith.
Anyone is welcome to come onto the Bus. We have made provision for pre-school children whose parents/carers may drop in, but we want to provide a welcoming meeting place to which people of all ages and backgrounds feel able to come.
We want to be ‘Church’ for those who come, but we have no pre-conceptions about what form that takes – it will depend upon the needs of the people who come each time. People who would value conversation about life and faith will find the Bus a good place to come to, and if people find it helpful we offer informal support through listening and prayer. If people come to us with particular practical needs (such as food and shelter), we do our best to respond, but it may take us a little time to put people in touch with the appropriate agencies.
